Jak lives in East London with Asha, her partner of ten years. They have two grown up daughters and a grandson. Jak’s interests are family history, motorbikes, and any sports except golf (ruins a good walk) and darts (what’s the point). However, nowadays this mostly amounts to armchair sports i.e. watching TV. Jak likes reading, especially Terry Pratchet, with whom she shares both a strange sense of humour and ideas about theology. Jak does cross-stitch and enjoys making a joyful noise, with drums and guitar. |

Jak has worked in the Social Care field for twenty years and worked in residential and hospital settings with elders, before qualifying as a Social Worker ten years ago. In that time, she has worked with asylum seekers, children and families and disabled children looked after by an inner London borough. Jak started going to a Pentecostal Church when she was 12 years old, then went to an Evangelical Church with a school friend at 16 and became involved in teaching a Sunday School class with her friend. Jak stayed in that Church for about 3 years, then questions began to be asked about her sexuality and she knew it was time to leave. Knowing mainstream Churches stance on homosexuality, Jak didn’t go back until a year after she and Asha and had read about this ‘Queer Church’ MCC East London. They went on Palm Sunday in 2002, and have not left MCC since. Jak was very involved in lay ministry and served on the Church committee for four years. Jak is training as a Pastor in MCC, has In Care status and started her internship in MCC North London, in July 08. Jak is in her final year of studying part-time for an MA in Pastoral Theology at Heythrop College. Jak is responsible for the Communication and Social Ministry within MCC North London. |
